Family & Friends Mourn Loss of Three Community Leaders Following Deadly Rolla, MO Collision

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on December 13, a tractor-trailer heading west on Interstate 44 crossed the median to the eastbound side of the highway and struck an oncoming minivan head-on. The 2013 Dodge Journey was carrying 58-year-old Mark Ranney, 57-year-old Bonnie Ranney, and Bonnie’s mother, Mary Ensign. All three were tragically killed at the scene. They were nearly home when their van was hit.

Dr. Mark Ranney was a veterinarian at the Bishop Avenue Veterinary Clinic, which he took over from his father and where he had worked for more than 30 years. Revered for his commitment and dedication to his work, he was described as a caring man with a very kind, giving soul. With Mark’s death, the veterinary practice may close for good.

Mark’s wife, Dr. Bonnie Ranney, helped countless patients over her 28 years in practice at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. A beloved family physician, she was formerly an administrative physician for the Community Care Clinic, which is sponsored by the PCRMC. She also served as a medical director and provider at the Your Community Health Center in Rolla.

Bonnie’s mother, 85-year-old Mary Ensign, was a regular hospital volunteer.

The truck driver, Hardeep Singh, 29, of Stockton, CA, suffered only minor injuries and declined medical treatment. There is still no word on whether Singh will face criminal charges, but according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s online report, he was driving too fast for conditions, causing him to lose control of his truck.
